Nigeria: Universal Basic Education Project
Cambridge Education is contributing the development of basic education in Nigeria by strengthening State and Federal agencies.
Project duration: 2003 to 2008
Cambridge Education, together with the British Council (the lead partner) and ActionAid Nigeria, is providing technical assistance to the Federal Government of Nigeria and State governments in three states to support the implementation of a programme of activities funded through the Nigerian Government-IDA credit, Universal Basic Education Project (UBEP).
From 2003 to mid 2006, CUBE supported the UBEP in 16 states and in federal institutions. At this point, the UBEP strategy was changed, narrowing the focus to Kano , Kaduna and Kwara States and adjusting the support it provides to federal and parastatal bodies.

In each of the three states involved, CUBE provides a State Implementation Team Leader for UBE, supported by finance and procurement specialists and an education officer. The project also supports federal institutions, coordinated through the Universal Basic Education Commission, in areas of EMIS, monitoring and evaluation, financial management, HIV/AIDS and procurement. CUBE’s professional support is led by a senior educational policy adviser.
The technical assistance components are funded by DFID, complementing the IDA funding for project implementation. |
