Ethiopia: Education Sector Development Plan
Cambridge Education worked with the Ministry of Education to develop a plan for meeting the need for effective teaching and learning materials.
Date completed 1998
Cambridge Education was selected by the EU to assist in developing the EU contribution to the Education Sector Development Plan (ESDP). The assignment involved three major components - representing the EU on World Bank co-ordinated Joint Donor Missions, developing a coherent textbook policy and strategy for Ethiopia through a consultation process, and preparing a proposal document detailing support to educational materials production and provision for a possible input of 35 million ECU.

Our consultant team worked with officials from both the national and federal governments to devise action plans and associated budgets, and with teachers and representatives from the private sector to develop textbook policy and strategy. The consultancy produced a final document which laid out areas for possible EU support including financial support to buy learning materials and to mount a training programme to equip education sector staff with the skills they need to develop and produce textbooks and distance learning packages. |
